The advisory board of the Paulo Freire Center has following duties:
- The discussion of the orientation of the Paulo Freire Center
- The formulation of education policy guidelines for the Paulo Freire Center
- The discussion and agreement of the emphasis (programme of the year)
- The consultation of the direction of the Paulo Freire Center in current issues
The advisory board meets regularly. It does not bear any juridical responsibility. It issues rules of internal procedure.

Honorary Committee
In 2006, Paulo Freire Center established a honorary committee. In doing so, it emphasizes special relations to public figures who rendered outstanding services to public education.
So far, the one and only member of the honorary committee: Paul Singer, State Secretary of solidarity-based economy in the Ministry of Labor, Brazil.
Paul Singer passed away on the night of April 16/17, 2018.
