Die Leuphana Universität Lüneburg bietet in Kooperation mit dem Paulo Freire Zentrum eine Summer School zu transdisziplinärer Forschung an, die sich an Wissenschaftler_innen und Vertreter_innen aus Praxisfeldern richtet.
Die Td Summer School besteht aus einem 5-tägigen Td Training Module, in dem theoretische und methodologische Grundlagen transdisziplinärer Forschung vermittelt werden und an der Entwicklung transdisziplinärer Forschungsdesigns gearbeitet wird, sowie aus einem 2-3 tägigen Special Training Module, in dem jährlich variierende Themen vertiefend behandelt werden. Ein besonderes Anliegen der Td Summer School ist die Orientierung an Themen der Teilnehmer_innen , die ihre disziplinäre oder interdisziplinäre Forschung transdisziplinär ausrichten möchten oder aus Praxisfeldern heraus an transdisziplinärer Forschung mitwirken möchten.
Durch das Zusammenarbeiten von Wissenschaft und Praxis in der Td Summer School wird die damit einhergehenden Multiperspektivität erlebbar gemacht und ein Erarbeiten und Verhandeln von Rollen, Aufgaben und Verantwortungen aller Beteiligten in transdisziplinärer Forschung unmittelbar ermöglicht.
Ziele
- Das Entstehen von transdisziplinärer Forschung im Kontext gesellschaftlicher Transformationen beleuchten;
- Einen Überblick über unterschiedliche Ansätze und Prozessdesgins von transdisziplinärer Forschung erlangen;
- Methoden inter- und transdisziplinärer Forschung kennen lernen: u.a. Methoden der Wissensintegration, Methoden der Grenzarbeit, Validierungs- und Bewertungsmethoden;
- Ausloten von Möglichkeiten der Weiterentwicklung disziplinärer und interdisziplinärer Forschung der Teilnehmer_innen in Richtung transdisziplinärer Forschung;
- Identifizieren der unterschiedlichen Funktionen von transdisziplinären Prozessen und Rollen involvierter Gruppen.
Zielgruppe
Die Td Summer School richtet sich an Wissenschaftler_innen und Praktiker_innen (z.B. Vertreter_innen von Unternehmen, NROs, Verwaltung) aus allen Disziplinen und gesellschaftlichen Feldern, die ihre Aktivitäten an den Schnittstellen zwischen Wissenschaft und anderen Gesellschaftsbereichen in Richtung transdisziplinärer Forschung entwickeln wollen.
Veranstalter
Die Td Summer School wird vom Methodenzentrum und der Fakultät Nachhaltigkeit der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg ausgerichtet. Die Td Summer School wird von Prof. Dr. Ulli Vilsmaier geleitet. Das Special Training Modul hat einen wechselnden thematischen Fokus und wird in Zusammenarbeit mit unterschiedlichen Kooperationspartnern der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg realisiert.

Td Summer School 201, August 28 – September 02.
The Td Summer School 2016 offers a Td Training Module that prepares researchers and practitioners for transdisciplinary research at the science | society interface and a Special Training Module on ‚Photographic Research practice in Transdisciplinary projects throgh Generative Picturing‘. The Td Summer School 2016 addresses researchers and practitioners from all disciplines and societal fields as well as graduate students with research experience who want to develop their research and professional activities at the science | society interface towards transdisciplinary approaches. The Td Summer School is offered in collaboration with the Paulo Freire Center for Transdisciplinary Development Research and Dialogical Education, Vienna (Austria) and ipsum , an association for intercultural dialogue, art and education.
The Training Modules
1) The Training Module (Aug 29 – Sep 02):
During the Td Training Module we will provide both, theoretical foundations of transdisciplinary research and practical experiences in designing transdisciplinary research processes. You will gain insights in different methodologies and frameworks, principles and design elements of transdisciplinary research and get an overview on methods applied in transdisciplinary research. During two days, we will elaborate transdisciplinary case study designs in small groups. The case study designs will be developed in 20 steps that will guide you from the framing of a problem to the development of implementation strategies of results.
Training Objectives
It is our overall objective to create strong links to your fields of activities. Therefore we will jointly select the cases based on suggestions from the participants. A case can be a problem field your current research or professional activity is related to and which you want to further develop towards a transdisciplinary approach, or an issue that you are planning to work on in the future. By jointly developing the transdisciplinary case study design, you will have the chance to apply principles, design elements and methods which will be introduced during the first days of the Td Training Module. Working together in groups with scientists and practicioners will allow you to experience the different perspectives on cases in transdisciplinary research processes and to discuss diverse roles, tasks and responsibilities of involved persons in transdisciplinary research.
2) SPECIAL TRAINING MODULE (SEP 05 – 06):
Photographic Research Practice in Transdisciplinary Projects: Generative Picturing

In Paulo Freire’s concept, dialogue is based on the complementary elements of action and reflection that constitute praxis as transformation. In the Special Training this concept will be transferred to the impact of visual research methods in transdisciplinary projects. Working with photography and the different roles that can be taken in that context, allows for a reflection of images of Self and Other. This reflection can spark off critical discussions of apparently clear answers. Especially in situations of cultural difference, such as development and sustainability research or projects in the field of intercultural communication, photographic practice with all its interaction levels – acting, perceiving, reading and communicating – can be used to approach questions, topics and knowledges that are relevant to the people involved. Exploring the inbetween through photographic research practice in situations of cultural difference allows for critically reflecting on societal conditions, taking action and experiencing alternative forms of knowledge generation.
Training Objectives
- Experiencing photography as a means of expression, dialogue and research.
- Learning about divers visual approaches in the field of social science that can be useful in transdisciplinary projects.
- Focusing on research elements such as process-orientation, iteration, participation and performativity in order to open up a research space in which the interpretative authority does not remain within the realms of scientists alone.
- Experiencing Generative Picturing as an approach for research and mutual learning that goes beyond procedures of pure depiction and production of evidence.
